Vacancy: Chair of Economic Development Association of Scotland (EDAS)
EDAS, a company limited by guarantee with charitable status, is the country's foremost membership-driven association for all organisations and individuals with an interest or role in Scotland's economic development. With an extensive cross sector membership, EDAS supports the development of the knowledge, skills and networks of its near 3,000-strong membership; providing a voice for the economic development profession, and a space in which to learn about and contribute to related policy and good practice. As a result, EDAS improves the effectiveness of Scotland’s economic development policy, delivery and capacity. The Board of EDAS wishes to appoint a new Chair. This is an exciting and prestigious position that requires broad knowledge of Scotland’s economic development community and a commitment to build on the organisation’s success in developing its membership and strategic partnerships, member offerings and CPD, and policy and practice work programme. The Board is seeking a Chair that will maintain the organisation’s track record of sound strategic, operational and financial management. The Chair serves for a maximum of two terms of three years and must ensure good corporate governance, which involves chairing quarterly Board meetings and the AGM. The Board represents a senior and experienced cross section of Scotland’s economic development community. The Chair has a particular responsibility for providing effective leadership on matters such as:
- Ensuring that Board meetings are effective, efficient and appropriate, with important strategic and operational issues raised, discussed and progressed.
- Ensuring high standards of propriety and the efficient management of the EDAS support team and other organisational resources.
- Representing the views of EDAS externally and maintaining and developing valued relations with stakeholders in the Scottish public, private and third sectors.
- The Chair ensures that all Board members are aware of their duties, rights and responsibilities and monitors and manages the performance of the Board and its members.
The Chair oversees the EDAS support team’s delivery of EDAS activities and priorities, and offers guidance on matters arising within the company. The Chair also acts as a sounding board for the support team and provides guidance and support.
This is an unremunerated position.
